Bree and Jake’s Rattlesnake Lake Couples Session by Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Brandi Potter
Back in November I hosted a retreat in Seattle. Our shoot took place out at Rattlesnake lake and I had Bree and Jake come out to model. Much to my dismay they wouldn’t bring the kittens they were fostering for us to play with, but it was still an amazing shoot. We went up the path a little to the lookout before heading back down to the lake. Rattlesnake Lake is what I think of when I talk about the Pacific North West. It has all of the aspects you would think of. A mountain view, a forest with deep lush greens, and the lake with the tree stumps.
This was my first time going out to Rattlesnake Lake, and I was surprised to see how low the water was. I never knew that it receded that low to expose the stumps so much. I would honestly love to just go out there and not shoot. Just do the hike up to the lookout and then climb up on a stump and take a nap. It’s so serene out there and worth the drive out to just take in the scene and enjoy nature.
These retreats have taken me to some pretty amazing places this year. They’ve allowed me to connect with photographers who I’ve been online friends with for awhile, and now I can call them my real friends. They’ve shown me that teaching and educating can be comfortable and fun instead of being stuffy and stiff. Honestly, I think the attendees are learning more because we’re living together for a few days, eating & cooking with one another, and just hanging out while we talk about all things business. I can’t wait to see what the retreats are this year. I’m still picking locations for the fall/winter but I’m open to suggestions!
